10. Number Line

10-1. Basic Number Line Operations

Using a Number Line Sticky Note lets you plot points and draw lines (line segments, rays, straight lines) on the number line in the draw area.

10-1-1. To draw a line or plot a point

1. Click within the paper.

・This displays the Sticky Note menu.

2. Click .

・This creates a Number Line Sticky Note and displays the draw area and tool palette.

3. To draw a line, click or on the tool palette.

4. Click anywhere on the number line.

・This sets the coordinates on one side.

5. Click another location on the number line.

・This sets the coordinates on the other side and draws a line segment.*

* A ray or straight line may be drawn, depending on the draw settings. See "10-1-3. To configure line drawing settings".

6. To plot a point, on the tool palette.

7. Click anywhere on the number line.

・This will plot a point on the location where you clicked.

10-1-2. To configure point plotting settings

Clicking the down arrow button (▼) below on the tool palette displays a menu that you can use to change the plot point type.

  • (1) ... Plots filled dots (●).
  • (2) ... Plots unfilled dots (○).

10-1-3. To configure line drawing settings

Clicking the down arrow button (▼) below or on the tool palette displays a menu that you can use to change the draw start point or end point, respectively.

  • (1) ... Plots a filled start point (●).
  • (2) ... Plots an unfilled start point (○).
  • (3) ... Selecting this menu item and menu item (4) or (5) draws a ray starting with a (4) or (5) start point and an infinity end point.
    Selecting this menu item and menu item (6) draws a line with arrows (indicating infinity) as the start point and end point.
  • (4) ... Plots a filled start point or end point (●) on a line.
  • (5) ... Plots an unfilled start point or end point (○) on a line.
  • (6) ... Plots an arrow (indicating infinity) as the end point (→).

10-2. Moving a Point or Line

10-2-1. To move a point

1. Click the Number Line Sticky Note to select it.

2. On the tool palette, click ( ).

3. Select the point you want to move by clicking it.

4. Drag the point to the location on the number line where you want to move it.

10-2-2. To move a line

1. Click the Number Line Sticky Note to select it.

2. On the tool palette, click ( ).

3. Select the line you want to move by clicking it.

・To move one end of the line (● or ○), click the ● or ○ to select it.

・To move a line segment, ray, or straight line, click the line you want to move to select it.

4. Drag the point to the location on the number line where you want to move it.

10-3. Deleting a Point or Line

1. Click the Number Line Sticky Note to select it.

2. On the tool palette, click .

3. Click the point or line you want to delete.

・You can continue clicking other points or lines to delete them.

  • Selecting multiple points and/or lines and then clicking will delete all of them.

10-4. Zooming the Draw Area

1. Click the Number Line Sticky Note to select it.

2. Move the mouse pointer to the location you want to zoom.

3. Rotate the scroll wheel of the mouse to zoom the draw area.

Note

  • If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you can zoom by pinching in or out.
  • Clicking on the tool palette adjusts the display so drawn points and lines fit within the window.
  • To return to the initial display, click on the tool palette.

10-5. Panning the Draw Area

1. Click the Number Line Sticky Note to select it.

2. On the tool palette, click .

3. Drag the draw area to pan.

10-6. Resizing a Number Line Sticky Note

You can resize a Number Line Sticky Note by dragging in the bottom right corner of the Sticky Note. Resizing does not change the range of the number line.

10-7. Configuring Number Line Sticky Note Settings

1. Click the Number Line Sticky Note to select it.

2. Click .

3. Configure settings as required.

・You can configure the settings described below.

  • Color: Specifies the background color of the Number Line Sticky Note.
    Range: Specifies the drawing range of the number line as values on the x-axis.
    π: Switches the scale of the number line between decimal and π. Selecting this check box changes the scale to π.

    Snap to grid:  Specifies whether or not a point or a line end point should snap to the grid when it is being moved. Selecting this check box turns on snapping.
