When you cannot find the desired word, substitute the part of the word you are uncertain of with “?” (wild card) or “*” (blank word) to perform search.
- If you know the total number of characters in the word, substitute characters that you are uncertain of with “?” and perform search (“wild card search”).
Example: If you are not sure of the underlined characters in “subordinate”, enter “sub?rdi??te”.
-
If you are not sure of a block of characters, substitute it with “*” to perform search (“blank word search”).
Example: If you are not sure of the underlined part of “subordinate”, enter “sub∗te”.
MEMO
You cannot use more than one “∗”.
You cannot use “?” and “∗” in the same search.
When searching across multiple dictionaries, “?” or “∗” cannot be used. Select an individual dictionary before performing these kinds of searches.
